If Jerwin Ancajas wins his rematch with IBF world super flyweight champion Fernando Martinez next weekend, October 8, at Dignity Health Sports Park in California, Filipino contender Jade Bornea is now open to fighting him.
The International Boxing Federation (IBF) recognizes Bornea as the leading contender for the 115-pound title, with a professional record of 18-0 and 12 knockouts. He had previously stated that he would prefer not to fight Ancajas, but he now states that he would be willing to do so if the sanctioning body directs it.
I cannot intervene if the mandatory fight is ordered by the IBF. Bornea stated to Sparring Sessions LIVE, “I am always ready.”
When Martinez beat Ancajas by unanimous decision in February, the 30-year-old was making his tenth defense of the world title. Bornea claims that Ancajas has all the tools to win the rematch if he can overcome his conditioning issues.
Ancajas already possesses everything; all he needs to do is work on his conditioning. Bornea stated, “I am more optimistic for Ancajas now because he is better prepared so he can really win the rematch.”
“Due to his conditioning, he was unable to show what he can really do in his last fight, but I think we will see the real Jerwin Ancajas. Because he wants to get his belt back, I just know that Jerwin would win. Ancajas is far ahead of the game in terms of skill.
