OKBet Sports: Petecio and Paalam Led The Philippines’ Asian Championship Team.

Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam, Olympic silver medalists from Tokyo, head the Philippine boxing team that competes in the Asian Elite Men and Women Championships next month in Amman, Jordan.

The tournament, which begins on October 30 and runs through November 13, is intended to prepare for a busy 2023 and is expected to attract a strong field from the region, including the Philippines.
Paalam will compete in the men’s 54 kg division, while Petecio will compete in the women’s 57 kg division.


Althea Pores, Aira Villegas, Irish Magno, a Tokyo Olympian, and Hergie Bacyadan, a 75-kg competitor, join Petecio in the women’s lineup.

Mark Lester Durens (48 kilograms), Rogen Ladon (51 kilograms), Ian Clark Bautista or Mario Fernandez (57 kilograms), Paul Julyfer Bascon (60 kilograms), James Palicte or Jere Samuel dela Cruz (63.5 kilograms), and Marjon Piaar (69 kilograms) complete the men’s team.


Eumir Felix Marcial plans to join the team following his pro fight in the United States on October 8 in the 75-kg division.

In addition, the squad will participate in an intensive two-week training camp in Amman prior to the competition.

The ABAP is ramping up its training and competition programs for its athletes in preparation for next year, particularly for the 19th Asian Games, which will be held in Hangzhou, China, and will be one of the qualifications for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

The association is also looking forward to the 32nd Southeast Asian Games, which will take place in Phnom Penh, Cambodia in May 2023. These games will also serve as a part of the buildup for the team as they attempt to qualify for the Olympics.

The team is currently in Baguio City for the purpose of getting some work done there.
