OKBet Sports: UP Beats Perpetual, Wins SSL Debut 2022

UP overcame a sluggish start and defeated Perpetual in the Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Pre-season Conference on Sunday, October 2, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.

The final score was 10-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-15, 15-10.

The Lady Maroons were unable to establish their rhythm in the first period of the match, and the Lady Altas were led by rookie Shaila Omipon. The Lady Maroons put up a valiant effort in the subsequent sets, however, and were able to pull out their first victory of the year.

Alysa Bertolano, a first-year player who has already distinguished herself as a star, led the way for the Lady Maroons by scoring 19 points off of 16 attacks and three aces.

The University of the East was defeated by the Lady Altas in three sets (25-22, 27-25, 25-16), bringing the Lady Altas’ record in Pool A to 2-1. The Lady Altas, on the other hand, now have a losing record in the competition.

UP got its act together for the decisive set, and Bertolano helped her side get off to a good start by serving two aces in a row, giving them a 4-1 advantage.

Perpetual inched closer to UP with a 7-all stalemate following the former’s receiving blunder, but Bertolano was a match for them and immediately delivered another blow to regain the advantage.

Omipon made many attempts to get back into the game, but the Lady Altas committed two consecutive service mistakes, which made it impossible for them to do so.

Ethan Arce, on the other hand, didn’t waste any time and scored back-to-back points for UP by virtue of a rapid hit and a service ace. These two points were enough to win the match for UP.

On Sunday, October 9 at 3:00 p.m., UAAP rival UP will face off against UE.
