Yuka Saso shot an even-par 71 to finish in a tie for 42nd place during the final round of the Volunteers of America Classic on the LPGA Tour in The Colony, Texas on Sunday, October 2 (Monday in Manila)
The Filipino-Japanese golfer finished with a four-round score of 284, which was 18 strokes worse than the eventual winner Charley Hull of England.
The first three rounds that Yuka Saso played were all scores of 70.
The Olympic competitor from Tokyo had a roller coaster start to the round, carding four birdies, two bogeys, and a double bogey on the ninth hole, which is a par 4.
Her work was worth $7,967 in compensation (around P470,000).
Yuka Saso did not perform as well as she did the previous week when she competed in the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, where she finished tied for 32nd place.
Since she won the US Women’s Open in 2021, she has been trying to add another title to her collection.
Yuka Saso is currently ranked as the No. 35 player in the world and plays for Japan.
During this time, Hull took the championship away from Xiyu Lin, who had been tied for the lead after the third round, by shooting a 64 and finishing with 266.
She won the match against Lin by only one shot thanks to her eight birdies, which she used to offset the bogey she made on the eighth hole.
After posting a score of 65 out of 267, Lin had to make do with finishing in second place.
Despite making an eagle on the 17th hole, which cut Hull’s lead by one stroke, Lin was unable to convert at least a birdie on the last hole, which would have forced a playoff.
